Transderm-Scop works most of the time in most people, as shown by our survey results and research respondents preferred the scopolamine pill to the patch. Phenergan, Compazine, and Reglan sit at the other end (very effective but with many possible side effects). In this tradeoff, Bonine (meclizine) sits at one end of the spectrum with no serious side effects, but it is not effective for many people. In January 2009 Practical Sailor surveyed a variety of anti-seasickness meds. I know this isn't strictly sailing related, but I figured I would ask some professionals, haha! I did learn to sail as a kid (even taught at a sailing school in New England for a summer in college), so there's that! (I only mention this because a seaman friend of mind highly recommended smoking pot as a preventative measure) This is a UNOLS (University National Oceanographic Laboratory System) research ship, so recreational drugs and alcohol are strictly prohibited. This will be a 20-day trip at sea, which is about twice the length of time I've spent on the open ocean previously.
